Welcome

This is my gaited horse information blog here you will find tips and a blog on current horses i am working with

ttalk

Here I am working with Sonny.  He is a 3yo TWH.  I do this with every horse I take in. I find that there are always  big  holes in most horses’ ground work .  This is the building block of trust and communication we need to make a safe trail horse.

t lunge

This is how we work our horses on a lunge line; slow and easy, trying to keep them in gait & not letting them get too excited.

I was wondering how to get a Tennessee Walker out of a pace and up into his gait. Do you have any advice?

This are the method we use a pacey horses. It can take a lot of time to bring around a very pacey horse. Here is a link to an article on how to proceed from Brenda’s site.

  3. What advice could you give concerning a horse that is jumpy. Example is that if you move your hand around her face she jerks back like she is spooked. Also when you ride her, she spooks a little like if she hears something or catches something out the corner of her eye. What could I do to get her past this? Thanks!

Hi, You need to do ground work with her. You need to sack her out with all kinds of things like I am doing with my youngsters. I would especially do a lot of desensitizing around her head and face. Just don’t start there, start on other parts of her body and work towards her head. These two colts were jumpy when I started, and now they aren’t. It just takes working with them and some time.
